A great read, definitely brought back the sense of euphoria as I read your words. I bought an (also monstrous) ebike this summer, and did 6 30+ mile trips in the first two weeks, including the 39 mile commute home from work to Peters Creek. That sense of spinning your legs endlessly is quite familiar, though I'm not having to deal with the hills wearing on my legs and lungs.
I *could* bike Res Pass in 1 day, but prefer 2/3 nights to camp (or snag one of the lake cabins) taking the time to unwind m, hike a bit and enjoy the scenery. An up/back on Devil’s Pass is one of fave day rides. 10 miles of mostly moderate uphill followed by a whooping 10 miles of fun on the way back. I like your term, The Territory, to describe the spiritual encounters with our true selves during challenges.
"...an abstraction or idea of something should not be confused with the thing itself."
Fantastic wisdom that fits your story like a bike glove. Thank you Ben, for sparking contemplation and reinvigorating the zest to get out and explore new territories.

Nice! It’s a great feeling to get out there. Even better feeling to get back 😂
Really enjoyed this one, especially from this warm chair with memories of past adventures in mind.
Thanks, Tom
