Practicing an Art

I don’t want to join the AI discourse.

There are a few reasons for this, but foremost among them is the fact that everyone is already in the discourse and most of those people are much smarter than I am1. Another reason is that those blindly bullish on LLMs as a path to generalized artificial intelligence (AGI) are, ironically2, hard to reason with. But perhaps most fundamentally, I think that the moniker “AI” is only half true, and that truth isn’t “intelligence.”3 Yet, I suppose with that intro it’s obvious I am dipping a toe into the discourse after all, but a roundtable at a founder’s event pushed me over the edge.
